Davy Crockett Bill Passes in the Senate

He’s Davy Crockett, and if you don’t know who he is, then having a day to honor him probably isn’t on your mind. However, certain TISL legislators think this is an important issue that needs to be set into law. TISL Bill 117 – A Resolution to make August 17 an Annual State Holiday Honoring David Crockett. When this bill was announced on the Senate floor, a sense of lightheartedness spread throughout chamber, despite the tensions that come with Election Day. Senator John Domanski stood and spoke on the bill by quoting what Representative Mark Maloney Jr. from UT-Martin stated last year, “Did you know that he was, Born on a mountain top in Tennessee Greenest state in the Land of the Free Raised in the woods so’s he knew every tree Kilt him a b’ar when he was only three Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier!”, which brought applause and laughter to the floor. This speech is a part of the Ballad of Davy Crockett, and with that the bill passed in the Senate.

Is this bill truly important? No, but watching it unfold definitely brought a sense of camaraderie to the floor. So we can’t really blame these legislatures for making a bill that brings some good heartedness amongst the Senate delegates.
